Pittsburgh/Tri-State Committee Welcomes the Royal Couple

Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine of Serbia visited Pittsburgh and Johnstown, Pennsylvania in order to recognize the contributions of Serbian community leaders and organizations, as well as leading United States nonprofit organizations, such as Lifeline Humanitarian Organization, who are committed to organizing and supporting relief efforts that reduce and relieve the suffering of the most disadvantaged and underserved populations in Serbia.

On April 20, Their Royal Highnesses attended "A Night in Serbia", a dinner reception and program in Johnstown, which was hosted by The Circle of Serbian Sisters Organization at St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church. Mr. Frank J. Janakovic, the Mayor of the city of Johnstown, proclaimed April 20 to be Serbian Day and welcomed Their Royal Highnesses to Johnstown. Many thanks to Kristina Marinkovich, the chair of this beautiful event, for spearheading this fundraiser and making "A Night in Serbia" a night to remember! During their visit to Pittsburgh on April 21, TRH Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine were hosted by the Serb National Federation, as well as at American Serb Club for an evening program and presentation. The Royal Couple attended a private luncheon reception at the Duquesne Club, hosted by Natasa Sokolovich and Debi Wheeler, before their scheduled visit to the offices of the Serb National Federation. The SNF also hosted a dinner for TRH prior to the evening reception and program at the American Serb Club in Pittsburgh.

This is the 5th consecutive year that the Pittsburgh / Tri-State Committee has hosted its annual fundraiser for Lifeline. Upon their arrival at the American Serb Club, Their Royal Highnesses were welcomed with a rousing arrangement of Boze Pravde, performed by the Czar Lazar Men's Choir and directed by Milutin Lazich. The program continued with a performance by The Tamburitzans and remarks by both HRH Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine. Princess Katherine then presented an award to Pittsburgh / Tri-State Chair, George Topich, for his remarkable service to Lifeline and its mission. The program continued with music and dancing by Srpski Sinovi, Madel Jager and the 412 Bend.

The Royal Couple will attend receptions, tours and events in Boston and New York City on this visit to the eastern United States in order to continue to raise awareness and gain support for the ongoing medical and humanitarian needs of the Serbian people.

Lifeline extends its sincere gratitude to the Pittsburgh/Tri-State Committee and its chair, George Topich, for its dedication to the Lifeline mission. We also wish to thank all of the sponsors who donated auction items and other goods and services to make the events in Johnstown and Pittsburgh so successful. Special thanks go out to Mark Simpson (www.marksimpsonphoto.com) who donated his photography services to the committee and shared his great photos with us so we could share them with you.
